Are there any special requirements to ship goods to Mexico?
Crossing the Mexican border has a number of operational differences from the Canada/USA border. Very often freight is transloaded at the Mexico border which can introduce extra risk to your shipments. Additionally, border closures, export regulations, specialty border crossing services can cause unwanted headaches. It is crucial to ensure that your transportation company offers Mexico certified customer service staff to keep your team in the know and your shipments on the move. With a trusted partner like First Frontier, you can access competitive prices and seamless door-to-door delivery through the borders of Mexico, Canada and the USA
Do I need a freight class to ship my product?
When shipping between Canada and the USA/Mexico or vice versa, with First Frontier Logistics, an NMFC freight class is not required. Giving you a smooth billing process without reweighs or reclassifications that can result in unforeseeable complications.
What insurance coverage do my goods have?
Shippers generally believe their goods are automatically fully covered, but they often realize during a claim that they lack adequate coverage. Shipments from the USA are usually covered for actual loss value under the Carmack Amendment rules however some carriers do place a limit to their liability (many times you can refer to BOLs to see if limitations are mentioned). Canadian shipments have approximately $2/lb coverage, and Mexico shipments may have no coverage at all. In order to safeguard our clients’ shipments, we strongly advise and guide shippers on the appropriate coverage options for their shipments before shipping. We also offer full coverage insurance for an additional fee. You can ask your customer service rep for further details.
How can we improve our shipping experience?
Several factors can enhance your shipping experience, such as increased carrier capacity, improved freight rates, and optimized supply chain performance. Negative impacts on your supply chain often stem from slow shipping turn times (waiting time?), delays in customs documentation preparation, lack of local driver support, and inflexible shipping schedules. Improving truck turn times can greatly enhance your shipping operations, attracting more carriers due to your facility being driver-friendly. Slow shipper turnaround times affect carriers’ drivers’ hours and their ability to manage other pickups and deliveries. Fast customs documentation and flexibility in shipping enable your partners to serve you more effectively
What is (Why Use?) a Logistics broker?
True Logistics or freight brokers (non-asset based) facilitate the exchange of goods between shippers (businesses needing to transport goods) and carriers (companies providing transportation services). Non-Asset Brokers can source greater capacity than asset carriers and don’t have assets that influence or restrict pricing or capacity availability. Brokers offer backup insurance coverage should a carrier’s insurance be lacking or not in force (have you checked your carrier’s insurance lately?). Non-asset brokers like First Frontier build up a wide range of expertise across many lanes, products and can ensure you receive the best pricing and service for your needs.
